Connor's Story

Meet Connor, a remarkable individual who defies expectations and embraces the extraordinary. Born with Leber congenital amaurosis, a condition causing blindness since birth, Connor has turned his unique perception of light and dark into a canvas for an inspiring journey.

At the tender age of two, Connor astounded his parents by playing tunes he had heard and loved on his toy piano. Recognizing his gift for playing by ear, his parents nurtured his musical talent. By the age of six, they sought out a piano teacher, propelling Connor to master the instrument up to Grade 3. His musical journey seamlessly transitioned into singing, leveraging his remarkable ability to memorize lyrics, acute hearing, perfect pitch, and a voice that is truly one-of-a-kind.

In 2010, serendipity struck when Connor crossed paths with the legendary Cher backstage in Las Vegas. Their connection flourished, and Cher became a guiding force in Connor's life, offering invaluable advice that played a pivotal role in his successful audition for the Hunter School of Performing Arts, where he thrived from year 6 to year 12. A reunion with Cher in 2018 at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre marked another highlight in Connor's musical journey.

During his tenure at HSPA, Connor showcased his solo talents at Star Struck from 2012 to 2017 and is currently pursuing a Diploma in Sound & Production. His musical collaborations have included performances with luminaries like John Paul Young, Glenn Shorrock, Rick Price, and the Pierce Brothers. Connor's giving spirit shines through as he has raised substantial funds for charities, particularly Variety the Children's Charity, expressing gratitude for the support he has received.

Connor's contributions extend beyond fundraising; he has graced the stages of Newcastle City Council, Ronald McDonald House Newcastle, and Talk2MeBro. In 2021, he was acknowledged in the NSW State Parliament with a Community Recognition Statement.

The accolades continued in 2022 when Connor clinched a Golden Pineapple at the Hunter Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. He also took the spotlight as a contestant on The Voice Australia, achieving a remarkable four-chair turn and securing a place on Team Guy Sebastian earning a place in the top 48. His blind audition, garnering hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube, showcased the world the undeniable talent that is Connor.

As the journey unfolded into 2023, Connor was chosen to perform at the inaugural Elevate the Stage in Sydney, commemorating the UN International Day of People with Disability. With each note he sings and every stage he graces, Connor continues to inspire and break barriers, proving that true talent knows no boundaries.
